Consumer Unit Upgrade

Consumer Unit Upgrade

Does your consumer unit look like it belongs in a museum?

Consumer units, often referred to as a fuse board, fusebox or distribution board. Play a vital role in keeping your home electrics safe. Modern day consumer units are a lot different to the old type with the pull out fuses and fuse wire in them, the pick up faults that older versions don’t.

A typical install is completed in just one day, we guarantee all work and issue all certificates once completed.

Reasons to Upgrade Your Consumer Unit

Better Electrical Safety

Modern day consumer units protect your home from earth faults and electric shocks as they include a residual current device (RCD). For example if you have a faulty appliance plugged in then an RCD would detect this and trip the electric.

Change in Electrical Regulations

Electrical regulations tend to change over the years as more safety measures are introduced, upgrading your consumer unit ensures your home electrics not only meet current legal requirements but that they are safe!

You Have a Number of Consumer Units in Your Cupboard

As time goes on and additions are installed in a property, electricians may install a separate consume unit to cover their work and ensure it complies with regulations. Which is fine but sometimes results 3 or 4 consumer units in a cupboard and can look untidy. 0800 Rewire can install 1 consumer unit making the installation a lot more comfortable.

Makes Your Home More Appealing When Selling

It’s common for home buyers to have a property surveyed before negotiating any reduction on price, electrics are one of the main things a surveyor will be looking at. If you have a new consumer unit accompanied with all certificates it’s piece of mind that the house is safe.

Our Consumer Unit Upgrade Process

  • Carry Out A Full EICR Prior To Installation

We would never recommend installing a consumer unit in a property without first having an electrical installation condition report (EICR). From this we will avoid any nasty surprises once the installation has started as any issues will be flagged from our report. This also ensures the wiring in the property will be suitable for a new consumer unit.

  • Installation of Consumer Unit

One of our qualified electricians will carry out the installation - typical installs can take anywhere between 3-6 hours. During this time there will be no electricity in the property.

  • Testing and Certification

Once we have installed your new consumer unit we will test your electrics again and ensure they are all safe before handing over back to you. All certificates will be issued in the following days.

  • Handover and Aftercare

When complete our electrician will then show you what’s been done, our team are always on hand to provide piece of mind should you have any further questions
